The Garden

At Holy Rood House we may not have the neatest and most manicured of gardens but we do possibly have one of the friendliest and most welcoming.  Here you can find quiet corners and little hidden delights as well as the pleasure of open lawns and broader views.  Scents and sounds compete for attention in the walled herb garden complete with well stocked pond and gentle waterfalls.  Your preference may be to sit in the main Garden and listen to birdsong and enjoy flowers in the perennial bed, or on a colder day of find the sanctuary of a summerhouse.  The whole garden is worked on organic principles.

Anybody is welcome to come and enjoy the peace of the gardens.

Half the orchard houses not only fruit trees but also Bubble the goat and Merry the Miniature Shetland Pony not to mention the hens.  Of particular interest and well worth seeking out is the hidden secret garden where numerous plants of interest jostle for attention and, of course, the peace of the Chapel of Sophia (wisdom) where many come for quiet reflection within its ivy covered walls.
Next door at Thorpe House a more traditional style of garden invites ideas for new planting and development and some guests and volunteers, have been hard at work.

Holy Rood House is a member of the Quiet Garden Trust
