Leaving
a Legacy
to
Holy
Rood House
| Why should I leave a legacy to Holy Rood House? | - besides, I’m not very well off. |
| to secure the continuation of the essential work of the House and to help to achieve something which will last for many years to come | to secure the continuation of the essential work of the House and to help to achieve something which will last for many years to come |
| to make an affordable gift (you don’t have to be rich to make a legacy) | to make a significant gift, perhaps for the first time |
| to
reduce your Inheritance Tax liability
|
to run side by side, but not necessarily replace, any charitable giving you may already have |
I get confused - what types of legacy are there?
There
are several types of legacy and you can request more information about
these either from us or from your solicitor.
| The basic types are: | |
| a gift in which your estate, after legacies, debts and expenses have been paid, is left either in its entirety to one beneficiary or to be shared amongst named beneficiaries | a
specific cash sum, often linked to inflation
an item of property, such as a house, car, shares or pieces of jewellery
|
Is your Will up to date?
If you already have a Will, is it up to date? Wills need to take account of any change of circumstances, such as marriage, the birth of children or grandchildren or the loss of spouse or partner. An out of date Will can have unintended results, or even be unenforceable. Minor changes can be made simply and cheaply by adding a new clause, called a codicil. More major changes will require a new Will. Updating your Will in the light of new circumstances is also an opportunity for you to consider adding a charitable legacy to Holy Rood House.
What
do I do now?
For
further information about leaving a legacy or making a Will, please telephone.
Should you decide to make or change your Will, you are strongly advised
to consult a solicitor. If you do not have one ask a friend or relative
to recommend one or you could always ask advice from the Citizen’s Advice
Bureau. Click to use the form of Codicil .
