Summer School 2009: ‘Spirituality and Trauma’

Presentation from Mary Grey, setting the theme of trauma and spirituality in a global perspective

The theme of psychological trauma explored by Dr David McDonald in sessions on ‘Body, mind, spirit... psychiatric perspectives’

Helen Leathard shared a paper on ‘Spirituality and Cancer-related Trauma’ giving an integration between science and spirituality

Jan Younger gave a paper on ‘The Trauma of Recovery’ looking at the process of recovery

June Boyce-Tillman gave a paper of ‘Theologizing Trauma’ using reflection, personal story and music. June also performed ‘A Tangled Truth – Mary of Magdala’ in the local church

Jan Berry shared her paper ‘Praying in the Shadow: Liturgy and Ritual in times of trauma’ looking at the role of liturgy and worship in facing trauma.

Elaine Wisdom gave a session on ‘Creative Arts as Healing Process in Trauma’ showing what a powerful medium art could be.

 

Hildegard Lecture 2009: Living with Difference

Rev David Gamble, president of the Methodist Conference led a weekend looking at the theme of difference, and how not fitting into the ‘norm’ is acceptable, giving a lecture on the Friday evening, and leading a work-shop on the Saturday morning. Barbara Glasson’s new book ‘A Spirituality of Survival’ was launched at Thorpe House on Saturday afternoon.

 

Women’s Spirituality Evenings

Evening workshops dedicated to discovering and discussing biblical stories that help women to find their own voices and spirituality.
